Review # 85: La-Z-Boy "Rex" Reclining Sofa and Loveseat

It has been almost two years since I decided to replace a sixteen year old La-Z-Boy sofa and a thirteen year old bargain sofa. The latter was freecycled, but the La-Z-Boy is still in the house, although in desperate need of a slip cover, it is still functional.
Because the sixteen year old sofa had held up amazingly well to children, pets,  and being moved from room to room, I thought it might be wise to go with another La-Z-Boy.
I ended up purchasing the "Rex" Reclining sofa and loveseat.
After nearly two years of kids, grandkids, my dog and an occasional visiting dog, the review goes like this:

Where to start ...

Fabric :
The "Rex" is made of a microfiber which is soft, comfortable, and cleans easily. I can say this for certain, as I have had to clean it a number of times. I did have it treated with something before delivery, so it is hard to say if it would clean as well without the fabricoat, but I have been able to remove ballpoint pen from the loveseat, so it is a winner there (10!).

Comfort:
Cushy and comfortable, with the added bonus of being able to recline (the middle seat of the sofa does NOT recline, but that is OK.) The arms are comfortable to lean on, and all the pillows are attached so there is no shifting. I like this feature, because anyone who has ever had a sofa with removable pillows and a house full of children knows the frustration of constantly having pillows all over the place as sofas are used for tents, jumping, or whatever other craziness they can think of. Attached is best. I added a few throw pillows for color and added comfort.
This sofa is not so comfortable to sleep on. The seat area is narrower than my previous very             sleep-comfortable sofas, probably because it expands when reclined. My son often sleeps on it with no complaint, but on the occasion when I have wanted to lay down on the sofa for a nap, I have reclined the two end seats to give it a little more width.
So for sitting and reclining comfort, I would rate this a 9, but for sleeping or laying across sofa, only a 4 or 5, something to consider if you are a frequent sofa sleeper.

Looks:
I chose a neutral tan color, which I dressed up with throw pillows. The motion levers are flat against the sides and do not detract from the look of the furniture. Unlike traditional recliners, The sofa and loveseat also do not need very much clearance from the wall or other furniture to be able to recline, which is a big plus. While not formal, these are nice, not too casual, and could be used in a variety of decor situations.
I would rate these pieces an 8 in the appearance department.

Durability:
Two years is not that long, but so far so good. Seat cushions are retaining their shape, although you can see that one seat on the sofa is used more than any other.
If their predecessor, the sixteen year old sofa, is any indicator, I would expect to get many years out of this love-seat and sofa. Rating TBD.

Moveability:
Once upon a time I rearranged furniture and rooms at least every other month. These pieces are heavy and it probably would not be good for them to be moved constantly. Fortunately for me, I have lost the urge to rearrange. They are not hard to push around on the laminate wood floors, so if the urge to redecorate finds me again, it is do-able. I give them a 7 for moveability.

My daughter's friend liked them so much he bought himself a set. If you are considering these pieces, the La-Z-Boy "Rex" love-seat and/ or sofa will make a nice addition to any living or family room.
