Review # 80: Ridgefield Farm in Harpers Ferry, WV

With 4 children of my own I have been to many a pumpkin patch over the years. Homeschool field trips, regular school field trips, and family field trips. Some are huge and have tons of other attractions like petting zoos, pig races, big slides, corn mazes etc. Others are kind of small and dinky, get a pumpkin, maybe go on a hayride and see you later.
Last weekend I took my mother and my two grandsons to Ridgefield Farm which is located outside of Harpers Ferry.

The review goes like this:

Ridgefield Farm is a nice place to go if you are looking for some inexpensive fun, not too much walking, and a moderate amount of activities. After parking and paying our $ 5 admission, we headed to the hayride, which was another couple of dollars. The hayride takes you around a loop, where scarecrow characters made with pumpkin heads are on display.
For another $ 3,  a large maze was available, but  due to time constraints we opted not to try it.
In the central area, there was a band playing blue grassy type of music, hay bales to sit on, a gift shop and a snack stand.  a little further there was a tent where a magic show was being put on.
Porta-Potties were discreetly but abundantly located on the property.
We headed to the pumpkin patch where pumpkins which have actually already been picked are distributed throughout, awaiting selection. Wagons are available, which is a good thing if you have small children with an eye for big pumpkins!
Before we left, we went to the pirate ship play-ground: A big ship with climbing apparatus, a slide, and in the same playground a large wooden train.  Good times.
If you are considering going to Ridgefield Farm, try it.  It is a well maintained farm, easy to navigate for young and old, has a decent amount of activities and plenty of resting spots. It's a nice way to spend a few hours on a sunny October afternoon.
