Review # 50: Grandchildren

*Picture of grandchildren eating on pool deck, something children were never allowed to do.

I love my children beyond anything I could ever describe. As a parent, it was and still is my job to raise them to be able to stand on their feet in this world that can throw even the best equipped person off balance. This means love and fun balanced with discipline and hard work.
Grandchildren are a different story altogether.

The review goes like this:

Unless you are a grandparent who has had to step in to raise your grandchildren (and if you are - God bless you) being a grandparent means love and fun without the pesty time outs and groundings of parenting.  Grandchildren have their own parents who are shopping, doing laundry, making sure they eat well and don't talk back and all that other stuff that parents have to do. Grandparents have the luxury of saying yes, please do have dessert even though you did not eat your dinner. Grandparents have the luxury of bending the rules a little to make life a little more fun. Because grandparents time is not taken up by the sometimes mundane chores of parenthood and because grandparents have more hindsight and see how precious the time is, there is time for an extra story or two, for fixing a toy for the hundredth time, playing board games over and over again, for answering a million questions. When they get a little out of hand, grandparents have the ultimate luxury of sending them home until next time.
Basically, all of the fun of childhood with little of the not so fun stuff. Grandchildren are awesome, a reward after the years of parenting. 10 +++
